There were two funny things related to my retirement paperwork.
I'll briefly describe the whole process, how we do this in Russia. Approximately two weeks prior to desired retirement date an employee needs to hand-write an application. Then it should be signed by two persons: employee's manager/supervisor and Director, Administration. Then the signed application goes to the HR department which undertakes further necessary steps. Soon after that the employee gets so-called List of departing employee to 'clear the take-off'. The employee needs to sign it off in different departments (accounting, IT, library, administration, security etc.) to make sure that all company property is returned back.
Well, here are the two funny things that happened to my paperwork. First, my signed application for retirement disappered from HR departement. They had to ask me to re-write it. Second, I accidently shredded my List of departing employee when it was almost completely signed. Everyone here says that was a sign that something went wrong with my retirement. Everyone expects me get back soon.
